Kickball update…

The Vibralux Denim Mario Chalmersiz are heading into the 2nd half of their kickball season & they’re still undefeated!!!! lets find out what the hell they’ve been up to.

The Vibralux Denim Mario Chalmersiz now post a 6-0 record and are currently the division leaders in the John Brown Pool of the Kaw Valley Kickball League(KVKL) in Lawrence, KS. They are currently ranked #3 out of 32 teams!! Let’s get you caught up with the last 2 weeks of action.

Week 5: Chalmersiz vs Brew Ballers
well let’s see…there was a 6 hour party bus tour that preceded the kickball game, & half of the Chalmersiz team was on that bus, you do the math!! Oh yeah…and it was 4th of July weekend!! So with so much drama in the 785, Week 5 saw the return of KVKL kickball legend & former Chalmersiz player Priest Fontaine(NYC), who works for the mobile app company Mobile Roadie & is co-captain of the John Cougar Mellencamps, 2 time defending champs of the Brooklyn kickball league. Priest organized The Heart of America Conference 2011 on July 3rd, which consisted of 50 people roaming around for 6 hours on a party bus tour which preceded the kickball game. The bus tour visited some famous but albeit unknown local sites such as the home of eclectic collector Randy Walker(http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/23153) & the estate of the late great American writer William Burroughs(http://www.youtube.com/watchv=cDU5OSWd2w8&feature=fvsr) as well as the uber famous local liquor store Jensens Liquor(former Chalmersiz sponsor of the 2005 championship team). The game you ask? well, from what i remember, which is very very blurry, it was sorta over before it got started. Coach Candie wore his underwear on the outside of his blue tights & Priest kicked a home run in his first two at bats, leading the Chalmersiz quickly out to a 9-1 lead. Everyone got in on the action, including an excellent defensive effort from shortstop Matt Lechtenberg, who was making plays all over the infield. Brittany Fellers kicked well for the ladies and once again Brian “Bronco” Costello brought his trademark lockdown defense to first base. The funniest play was when an easy pop fly was dropped by Chalmersiz veteran & Disc Golf CEO Justin “Subaru” Atwater-Taylor. Not only did he drop it, the ball hit him in the fuckin mouth…lol! He claims he was trying to catch it with his teeth, and after all the laughter subsided Coach Candie made him do a bunch of pushups in the outfield. With a party bus full of people cheering & heckling the other team, the Brew Ballers didn’t stand a chance. In fact, one of their players pouted after the game after all his attempts to bunt were shut down by 3rd basemen Priest & A-Train. The Chalmersiz came away with the victory 18-5, and moved to 5-0 on the season. Later in the evening the Chalmersiz put on a fireworks display at the KVKL Game of the Week. Armed with artillery shells galore, Priest & a few other Chalmersiz-iz put on a 15 minute salute to Old Glory…with the finale being a naked streak across the field by local blogger/artist Jason Barr(Barr blog u bitches!).

Week 6: Chalmersiz vs Los Luchadores
This was one of those games that when the kickball schedule was released, Coach Candie knew would be of supreme importance. Afterall, not only did the Luchadores narrowly escape with a 3-2 win over the Chalmersiz last year, but they also went on to win the championship in 2010. However, the Los Luchadores 2011 team looks a lotta bit different this year, having lost 5 of their starters from last years squad. So with Los Lucha 2.0 down some players & coming off a tough Game of the Week extra inning loss to Girls With Low Self Esteem, the Chalmersiz were primed to go in for the kill. Too bad it didn’t start off so well. The Chalmersiz gave up one run in both the 1st & 2nd innings, while themselves only scoring 1 run. But have no fear, after trailing 2-1, the team came out in beast mode and posted 3 runs in the 3rd inning & 6 in the 4th!! With the lead 10-2, the Chalmersiz defense dug in, and after allowing the Luchadores to score 2 runs in the first 2 innings, they didn’t score any the rest of the way. Justin “Soobs!” Atwater-Taylor had an amazing over the shoulder catch in the outfield that prevented a 2 run homer and garnered cheers from all the fans. Brittany Fellers made many great catches down the 3rd base line on kicks that could of turned into doubles. Coach Candie had great tip-pass on an odd ball to get a runner at first base by a step, prompting one fan to yell, “Veteran Move!”. Indeed, a great game was had by our lone married couple on the team. Both Adrian “A-Train” Taylor & wife Lindsay “Hurricane Katrina” Taylor posted great offensive numbers & base running skills. Also, unsung hero Barret Hamilton kicked the ball all over the lot en route to his best game of the season. While Brian “Bronco” Costello kicked well again, it was the ringers Matt Lechtenberg & Justin Cox who drove in many of the runs. The Los Luchadores defense just couldn’t keep up, and the Chalmersiz won the game easily, 11-2, moving to 6-0 on the season.

Coming soon to a kickball field near you!!!!!!!:
Week 7 Chalmersiz vs Slowride Roadhouse.
So with the Chalmersiz 6-0 and the surprise Slowride Roadhouse 5-1, this weeks game will determine the winner of the John Brown Pool. Coach Candie will be missing 3 players this week, so he’ll be in strategy mode to bring home the division title to Vibralux Denim.
