After the big storm on the way home from Wichita, the temperature dropped a bit. A nice break from the heat we had in Texas. After getting home at 7:30 am in the morning we snoozed till about 2 pm. We cruised to a local cafe to fuel up for the day and watched a recap of all the footage from the tour so far. It’s really cool to see what you have so far and it definitely helps give you a boost of motivation for the day. After our egg sandwiches and biscuits and gravy we met up with Alex, KC, Pat, and MCfresh.

We set up a wild roof roll to dumpster grind to wallride for Bolino, so he went to the van to grab his skates. He soon realized he left them in Wichita last night to enjoy the storm. After talking to a homie from Wichita we were informed they were hanging our in a garbage can soaking wet, nice one Skater of the Year. Haynes is on assignment to shoot him for his ONE interview and he no longer has blades, ice. Now that Colin is skating Nimhs, Bolino uses his a few times during the day to come through with some nice photos. Around the corner, everyone starts skating a kink rail. We hear some fireworks down the street, about a minute later a parade of 10 police cars race past and a helicopter starts to circle above us. As Michael and Chris finish up their deals, the rest of the crew strolls down to check out the scene. Turns out there was a 2 car drive by shooting, and 1 man died. Welcome to KC team.

After business is taken care of on the stink rail, we go down to the street to a foundation gap to the street Alex has been sitting on. With Haynes in town and the generator it seems like a good night, he jumps the gap a few times, photo turns out nice, Bolino built some weird trailer grind set up and got a photo and we cruised to dinner. Everyone was psyched on the 2 for 1 burgers and pool table. The next day we find out the building next to the foundation spot had collapsed and someone died. Alex must have landed too hard and shook the building.

After fueling up, we headed to this big bank to ledge. After everyone was worn out from struggling to charge down the on ramp to his huge bank and the tricks were landed we cruised to the next deal and got hassled by the 5-0 and decided to hit a different part of KC. Bolino threw himself down this long skinny gap a couple times and we called it a night at 4:30 in the morning.

Chris, Michael, and Billy go to NYC on Friday for a TML3 filming tour, so them along with Haynes headed back to Minnesota the next day. They will be back on board in couple weeks to jump back into the madness with the crew. In the meantime, keep checking out www.youhatetoloveit.com to see what the crew is up to in Kansas City.

6 hour driving days turn into 8 hour driving days when assholes can’t merge.  Construction was all for not on I-35 North to Wichita as we headed to meet Broskow, Collins, Wheeler, and crew.  Deals were had at one of the biggest busts in the whole city as cop after cop drove by.  It’s one thing to skate a spot, another to light a spot, but to skate it with 15 people, light it up, and have a van like ours in a residential neighborhood with a loud generator is unheard of.  At one point 4 squad cars and 2 patty wagons had driven by and all we got was a “is this your car?” it wasn’t…

The ride home at 4:30 am was spoiled by a thunderstorm, and by spoiled I mean we drove down the highway with the lights off at 70MPH filming lightning with the 7D making the people who feared for their life scream in dispair.  Lucky for me they were in the back and the people in the front weren’t and aren’t afraid to die.  End of the day the footage is captured, the video is sick, and we are in Kansas for a minute.

Travel days are the best and the worst days in skating.  They bring a much needed break from the long days of skating, however, these breaks are usually accompanied by hours in a cramped, smelly, wet van drinking beers with your friends.  Our last night in Austin was accompanied by a trip to Bikinis bar and grill for some quick hot wings and young girls signing the party van, Betty White and then we were on the road to Denton.  5 red plastic cups turned into rotation style flip cup binge drinking and before you know it several people were playing blackout poker. The homegirls blessed the van with some cool drawings and some nice messages, then Kate defaced it with a love note, which got edited and fixed.  Thanks Kate  Pass out where you find a spot, floor spot action in Garlinghouses room, and a few more memories and broken hearts.  Onward into the sunrise of Kansas.

“Hey lets start a little earlier tomorrow so we can get to BFree’s going away party at a good time!” None of us considered traffic.  We left at 5 pm and arrived at 5 hips (as seen in On Top) at 7 pm.  We warmed up and filmed a couple jams before the sun went down.  Once it was dark we carried the generator and lights down the rail road tracks from the van and got some more deals in the dark.  The mosquitoes feasted on us like it was a Chinese buffet.  After a successful session everyone packed up and were ready to hit the party.  Right before we got in the van we were reminded of a bank to jersey barrier on the other side of the highway.

AJ cruised the van across the road and over the curb, through the grass to a ditch next to some railroad tracks.  We hung out with some big cockroaches and got some more deals and called it a night.  The 2 hour drive to 5 hips in traffic was only a 25 minute drive back.  After sprucing up a bit, we piled back into the van and headed to BFree’s homie’s apartment where we thoroughly enjoyed some freestylin’ battles.

“We have to go to bed early tonight so we can skate the afternoon tomorrow before heading to Denton.”  Shortly after, we watched 8 am rolled around…

Today was another interesting day.  We had fallen asleep at 7am the night before after shredding hard in San Antonio.  A few hours later we were up and ready to go however we got iced out by rain.  Cruised over to Wal-Mart and bullshit around until the rain cleared up.  Again we were fortunate enough to get to skate in a 3 mile radius and hammer out a good deal of clips.  Weird happening of the night happened at a gas station adjacent to one of the spots Colin was shredding.  As the story goes the fellas headed into the gas station to buy beer and the lady was already weary of this motley crew of blade boys so she followed them around and started questioning their ages and intentions.  Eventually she broke down and called the police and filed the false report that 16 year-oldkids were trying to buy beer with fake ID’s, were throwing chips, and breaking signs.  She was on a good one basically.  5 squad cars showed up and they were all detained for 20 minutes while Colin laced his AO makio.

Back in the van in pursuit of beer and bam, pull into a 7-11 full of Texas State Troopers.  Rocking out hard to Led Zep we let the doors swing open on Betty White (the van) and proceeded to go buy a bunch of booze amid stares of amazement.  Wildest thing is we haven’t been profiled the entire time we’ve been in Austin.  We have consistently been able to light up spots until 4am and the police refuse to show up.

After the run-ins with the police we made our way to a nice little bridge spot where we encountered the local ‘condo’ owner.  This poor homeless man was missing the lower right half of his leg and kept referring to his home under the bridge as a condo.  Good guy.  I will ask Billy tomorrow about the three things he kept repeating.  Tricks were laced and after all was said and done I was driving back to Round Rock with a van full of sweaty, tired, drunk, satisfied, and accomplished rollerbladers talking and dreaming of cleaning up the industry.  Watch out suckas, the brooms are coming.

Texas is too damn hot.  We decided to invert our schedule.  We wake up at 2 or 3 pm wait to blade till 6 or 7, skate till 3 or 4 am using the generator and lights, then get in the party van and rock out till the sun comes up, and start snoozing like 8 am and keep it going.  It was a difficult transition, but when there is nothing on anybodies plate other than burning urethane we can turn the town upside down like that.  So eager to start our new routine, we got wild till the wee hours and snoozed till 3 pm, we went and got breakfast at a little cafe around the time people eat an early dinner.  After we run a few errands like filling the generator up with fuel we regroup at BFree’s pad to get our blade gear together.  We hit the road to rip the streets around 7 and it starts to storm heavy.  Everyone gets bummed out that we decided to flip the schedule and then our night got iced.  We grub out at this greasy diner spot.

Everyone is itchin’ to blade, but enjoying the epic lightning.  AJ starts scheming, as he often does.  Using his fancy iPhone he discovers that San Antonio only has a 30 percent chance of rain and is currently dry.  Everyone just wants to go hit the town and give up but bossman says, “We are making a movie, lets do this, worse case scenario, you guys get to party in the van on the way home.”  With a very pessimistic cast filling the van, we hit the highway for the 80 mile drive to San Antonio.

The storm only gets worse, blading isn’t looking too promising, so logically, the dudes in the back start hanging with uncle Evan Williams.  We stop at a gas station and someone informs us the weather in San Antonio is horrible right now.  What a bummer, we are 20 miles out.  Whatever we went this far already… So we pull into the city limits and the rain gives up.  We pass a parking garage with some yellow ledges inside, Skater of the Year says he wants a piece.  We stop, he handles business and other get some deals also.  We hit another parking garage spot and get kicked out but get the “5 more minutes, but act like you are leaving” deal.  Took care of the move, and by this time the ground is starting to dry up.

The streets are dry enough to skate and we jam out deal after deal till 4 am.  Everyone got a clip, we got some wicked photos.  Bolino got in a a little too serious of a wrestling match with some random drunk kid that came by.  Bolino ripped the kids t-shirt off, AJ’s shirt got ripped off too.  The random San Antonio drunk fell onto both of the Kelso’s cameras, and we asked him to not hang anymore.  The 2 hour drive back to BFree’s was filled with Bolino’s Santee antics.

2 lessons learned:

-Bring extra fuel for the generator

-Bolino isn’t old enough to hang with Evan without losing his mind.
